What is success? What does it mean to you? How do you define it in your life? What do you need to accomplish to label yourself “successful”? What do you have to achieve for you to feel confident enough to say to someone “I am successful…I am a success”?
These are the questions that my life coach asked me this morning in our coaching session and boy, did my response awaken me to how selfish and self-centered I have been.
My response: Money. ALOT of MONEY!
Though I do love and will always love making money, saying it out loud to someone that “money” was what defined my success really brought me a reality check.
I’ve made alot of money in my life time, so much money that in retrospect if I were to judge my success on money I would have considered myself “successful” at that time in my life but…I didn’t, nor was what I was doing something I would ever consider success. No matter how much money I made, money wasn’t everything and I didn’t consider myself nor would I tell anyone that I was successful.
Years later, I have a career that I always dreamed of and a life that I always wanted, but not making as much money as I used to and yet not considering myself successful. But why? Because of my belief that success equaled a dollar amount. I was still judging my success on how much money I was making vs doing something I was proud of and could say was success.
What is true success to me if I were to define it without a dollar figure tagged to it? What is true success from my core?
Success to me means that I strive to constantly grow in abundance, success and love everyday, as I inspire those around me to do the same.
So, if I can influence those who are around me to grow in their own abundance, success and love everyday and inspire those in their lives to do the same, then am I not truly successful?
WHAT A CHANGE IN MY PERSPECTIVE!
Success is more than just the numbers in our paycheck or our net worth. We attract success by the person we become and the more successful we become, the more people we influence, the farther our success grows.
Success is not in the number you create but the legend that you leave and the impact you make on those who’s path you cross while making your mark.
Success is something you attract by the person you become…and I intend to become a person who LEAVES A LEGEND!
